How it all started ...

summer 67

Ever since I was a small boy I was fascinated by models. Be that "Matchbox"cars, railways, planes, or cowboys, knights
and soldiers. As a child you naturally tend to get attracted by awesome technicals. So space ships, muscle cars, aircraft carriers and jets were an important part of my life. When I went to elementary school, I discovered plastic models by accident.
I bought one of these boxes with my few Marks and was utterly disappointed to find single mono-coloured plastic pieces
inside. Luck had it, that my mom was finehanded enough to build my first plane. For the record, a 1/72 Bf 110 from Airfix.
From that day I was hooked.

After I had built, played and wrecked most of the low-budget kits of every known brand I was looking for something new in the early 1980´s. I started to build 1/35 armour and figures. Slowly the interest in figures began to supersede the interest in afv´s. I did my first plastic surgery with some poor Tamiya victims. I was always fascinated by "little men" be that as a
crew of a toy car, a pilot from a kit or a box of soft plastic soldiers, especially the ones by Airfix. I also became interested in different historical periods. Then the epic "War and Peace" was shown on tv. It started my interest into the napoleonic period. And now there was a way to get the best out of both worlds, interest in history and the beloved painting. As we speak of painting, when I was 12 years old I once got hold of a big can of silver oven colour. How many objects I "silvered" on that
noteworthy day is a different story ...

My first attempts to paint small faces with an expression, especially with oils, were disastrous and led to many curses
and hair-tearing. But somehow it went on. The many painting articles appearing from the second half of the eighties proved essential for me. I had to experiment and to adapt and I continue to do so to this day. They showed many possibilities and ways to follow. The nineties brought more specialised publications, international shows and the internet discussion forums.
Enough said now ! On to the gallery ...
